Performances and Events for the 2007 Holiday Season

The Coliseum Central Christmas Parade
November 17th, 2007

Working in close contact with the Chick-Fil-A Christmas Cows, the Corps stepped lively in our first performance of the holiday season.

A man who can truly appreciate a good cut of beef, Mr. Camillucci remarked that working with 'his hooved brethern' had rekindled his desire to have a fine steak...

In other news, the Corps took pride in their second place finish this year --- but looks forward to returning next year to battle for first prize.

How About Some New Drum Racks

In what can only be described as 'a conniption fit of Christmas spirit' --- like Santa's sleigh, Mr. Haskin and Mr. Akers hauled the Corps' new drum racks through the night and dragged them into the headquarters.

Having languished for nearly a year in a garage outside of town, the new drum racks allowed the Corps to deploy our vast array of musical instruments against a single wall.

The Governor's Christmas Tree Lighting
November 30th, 2007

After seemingly endless years of repairs and restoration on Virginia's capitol, the annual Governor's Christmas Tree Lighting was reinstated at this year and the Corps had the priviledge of being the guests of Governor and Mrs. Tim Kaine.

Immediately following the performance and photograph, our Corps members sprang into action to return to our beloved Yorktown to participate in the Yorktown Candlelight Parade.

Yorktown Candlelight Parade
November 30th, 2007

In one of Yorktown's favorite traditions, the Corps led the procession of lights from the Yorktown Victory Monument to the York River Waterfront.

After the lighting of the Christmas Tree at Riverwalk Landing, Santa dropped by for a visit and took the time to chat with the boys and girls on hand...

Back at the headquarters, the Corps took a few minutes to relax with some cookies and hot cider... A special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon and Mr. and Mrs. Demharter for going that extra mile to organize the 'treat-fest' and making sure that no one left unsatisfied.

Yorktown Lighted Boat Parade
December 1st, 2007

Following one exciting evening in Yorktown, the Corps returned the following night to participate in the opening ceremonies for the Yorktown Lighted Boat Parade and finished the evening by performing at the sponsor's party held at the restored Freight Shed.

With a warm bonfire and dozens of luminated ships afloat on the York River, it was a holiday evening to remember and a delight to the thousands of visitors in attendance.

Jefferson Lab Children's Christmas Party
December 8th, 2007

A delight for children of all ages, a contingent of the Corps' drummers, fifers and flag bearers performed for the annual Christmas Party at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.

Somewhat shorthanded for drummers, Chief Drum Instructor James 'The Baron' Camillucci rose to the occasion to deliver some of the most exciting (and inventive) Christmas drum beatings of the season.

After the performance, Mr. Camillucci gave a few pointers to the Lab's Chief Operating Officer Mike Dallas who had spent much of his youth as a percussionist.

Fifes and Drums Annual Christmas Party
December 9th, 2007

In our last great adventure before the end of the season, the Corps came together to celebrate the holidays at the Freight Shed in Yorktown. During the afternoon event, we celebrated the accomplishments of each of our performers who had earned the coveted National Park Service Performance Award.

The Corps was delighted to have Superintendent Dan Smith on hand to personally deliver the awards to our members.

Finally, many thanks to the Demharter family, the Gordon family, and Mrs. Carver for organizing this event and setting up the room --- your execution was flawless.
