Independence Day Celebration
July 4th, 2006

The Yorktown Fourth of July Parade is an annual delight for all who visit our village. The Corps' participation in this event is always one of the high spots of our summer performance season, and this year was no exception.

Included in the pictures below are Bonnie and Jerry Karwac, this year's Grand Marshalls. For their tireless effort in the design and construction of the Yorktown War Memorial and their many, many years of service on the Yorktown Historic Committee, this honor was well deserved.

The Fifes and Drums of Yorktown salute them for their hardwork and dedication and congratulate them on their well-deserved recognition.

In a new addition to Yorktown's Independence Day festivities, this year the Corps was proud to co-sponsor the Independence Bell Ringing at the home of Thomas Nelson, Jr.

This event was sanction by a resolution of the United States Congress on June 29th, 1963 and calls for the ringing of bells at 2:00 PM Eastern Standard Time to honor the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

Participants in the event included Congresswoman Jo Anne Davis, Representative Melanie Rapp, Vice Chairman Ken Bowman, and Superintendent Dan Smith and was organized by the York County Historic Committee, Yorktown 4th of July Committee, Descendents of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence and the Colonial National Historical Park.

After many months of prepartion, planning and practice at 7:00 PM on Independence Day the Corps delivered the premier performance of their 30th Anniversary Field Show. The program was designed by Drum Instructor James Camillucci and was honed to a sharp edge by Instructors Teresa Haskin and David Abbott.

The Corps' months of effort were truly evident when they took the field, and the performance served as a tremendous opening for an evening of music and fireworks.

In what has become an annual tradition, the Corps presented the Declaration of Independence following the field show. You'll note in these pictures that a few adjustments to the microphone were necessary to accomodate some of our more compact musicians.

And of course... the day was filled with fun and family and the new headquarters offered a cool place for Corps' members to relax between shows.
