Independence Day
July 4, 2011

Weather was a concern for all as the Fifes and Drums of York Town prepared for the Independence Day Celebration in Yorktown, Virginia this year. The summer began with daily evening thunderstorms and the 4th of July was no different. However, the day started with an added bright spot. Our friends from Deep River, Connecticut, The Deep River Junior Ancients, were visiting for the holiday. Both corps marched to the Yorktown Monument and performed crowd-pleasing shows for an enthusiastic audience. The two corps were marching back to headquarters when a few sprinkles began to fall. The conditions improved later as the annual Fourth of July Parade through Yorktown began. Although a thunderous storm was moving into the area, the parade was a great success. Unfortunately, the USAF Heritage Band concert and the fireworks planned for later that evening were cancelled. Both corps still had a fun day though thanks to a family picnic held at headquarters.
