Yorktown Day
October 19, 2011

Weather had a major impact on Yorktown Day this year. With the prediction of dangerous thunderstorms, the Yorktown Day Parade was cancelled two days prior to the event due to the number of groups coming from out of town. This of course put a damper on the other festivities as well. As usual, nature is tough to predict, and the day turned out to be cloudy with a couple of very light showers. With all the cancellations, the Fifes and Drums of York Town became the main show in town! The Senior Corps performed wonderfully for the DAR Coffee. A small contingent performed for the Thomas Nelson Gravesite memorial service which had been moved into historical Grace Church. The Corps also marched through the town attracting folks back to Corps headquarters. There, the food and fun of the annual fundraiser, which was as beautifully organized as ever, became one of best events of the day.
